If
not for bucket brigade, a residence along the National Highway in Barangay
Buluangan would have been burned down.
The fire
started in the guest room of Gleceria Chua's house. Chua, 78, was watering her
plants when she noticed there was smoke in the guest room which has not been
occupied. Bureau of Fire Protection-San Carlos City Station received the alarm
at 5:55 AM, April 20.
When the
two fire trucks arrived at the scene, organized residents were already passing
buckets of water to put off the fire and prevent it from spreading to
neighboring houses made of light materials.
Upon
investigation, a short circuit of the electrical outlet started the fire. The
sofa in the affected room, which was right beside the outlet, fed the blaze.
SFO2 Erwin
L. Caliwanagan, Deputy Fire Marshall and Station Overseer, stressed that
outlets and switches at home should be opened, checked and cleaned at least
once a year to prevent fires.
Owing to
the training of the barangay tanods and some concerned citizens from BFP-SCC,
the Chua's house did not sustain major property damage.
