Dengue cases swell again

Dengue cases in San Carlos are rising.
As of August 29, 146 dengue cases are on the San Carlos City Health Office records. 46 of these are confirmed cases while there are two deaths. The data covers from January. Dr. Arniel Lawrence Portuguez, CHO department head, admitted that the city is now Negros Occidental's dengue topnotcher.

Stop dengue before it stops you

Based on Department of Health's leaflet campaign "Pamatyon ang Pitik-pitik, Tapna-on ang Dengue", here are the easy steps to prevent the spread of dengue mosquitoes in homes, schools and communities.
Get rid of stagnant water on containers, below dish racks, and especially on the refrigerator's water collector (found at the bottom).
Scrub clean all water containers such as pails, basins, and drinking water jugs. And provide them with covers. Remind everyone in the house to put back the cover after getting water from the containers.
Keep the surroundings clean and get rid of objects that may store water (e.g. bottle caps, plastic cups, and plastics). Provide proper receptacle with cover for garbage, both biodegradable and non-biodegradable.
Water in flower vases must be changed once a week.
If there is a vacant lot in your area that may become
a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects and pests, inform your barangay officials immediately and request them to conduct a clean-up drive.
Remember not to resort to fogging or burning garbage and dried leaves to drive away mosquitoes because this will not kill the mosquitoes and their eggs but will only make them transfer to a wider
area.

Valmayor on GIP honorarium: Can’t afford

"It's very heavy for the city."
City Mayor Gerardo Valmayor, Jr. said the city cannot afford to shoulder the honorarium of 322 interns under the Expanded Government Internship Program (GIP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Centralians to face libel raps

Officers of the Central Negros College Supreme Student Council are now facing a libel charge for staging a protest against Mario Ledesma and wife Socorro Broce-Ledesma.

Telenovela

With all due respect to the late Department of Interior and Local Government Sec. Jesse Robredo, that opportunistic politicians, our governor counted, are now calling for his wife Leni to run for senator come 2013 is both an example of stupidity and the proof of our shallowness.
Is this because one of the Robredo daughters expressed her desire to someday become another 'Kris Aquino' so the headless crooks (or crocs) are now coaxing the mother to become another 'Cory?'
Well, we already have too many telenovela scripts with too much crying going. We don't need yet another one.

Sulundon

Apan may kontra ba gyud?

Three days into the crash, DOTC Secretary Mar Roxas, the 'spokesman' of the Robredo Operations emphasized that their operations were still in the nature of 'Search and Rescue.'  Yet their activities in the succeeding days involved a preponderance of diving operations in the waters of Masbate. The nature of these actions was therefore that of 'Search and Recovery' contrary to what Secretary Roxas emphasized.

NewsRecord marks 27th year

27 Years

27 years and counting, NewsRecord Weekly Publication stands as the only enduring bastion of community journalism in San Carlos City.
In this far-flung and quiet town, it should be least expected that community media can thrive. Proof of this is the fate of the now defunct AM radio station, DYRS, and NewsRecord's print contemporaries like Negros Gazette, Northern Star, San Carlos Chronicle, Lamdag, the news letter of the Local Government Unit, and San Carlos News.

Fixing still rampant at San Carlos Smoke Test Center

Grease cash is again required to pass at San Carlos Emission Testing Center.
This is as proven by the story of a source and vehicle owner, who asked not to be named and had a vehicle tested on August 22.
The source told that her vehicle had recently undergone repairs and overhauls at Berting Machine Shop at the National Highway and that it was already in perfect condition before it was brought to the testing center located at San Julio Realty, Inc. grounds.

PASS IT NOW!

No greater heresy has been trumpeted by someone in power than the notion that our people need no Freedom of Information Act, because, according to one USec. Carandang, President P-Noy is already transparent in the governance of the State and is the embodiment of honesty in handling the reins of power.

NewsRecord is now 27 years old and just so near the transition to its fourth decade. It doesn't fail to amaze me that after all these years the newspaper has not grown to a megalomaniac chain of newspapers just like Cebu's Sun.Star or Ilo-ilo's Panay News. My understanding of the plight of most Philippine community newspapers, however, had put the amazement to sleep.

The Paralympics

We are now looking forward to the Para (or Parallel) Olympics, where disabled athletes from all over the world compete at the highest level in adapted competitions.
The origins of this were in England in 1948, when a Jewish German Doctor who had fled the Nazis, was given charge of a unit for soldiers with spinal injuries at Stoke Mandeville hospital.
