Another barangay hall has been found violating R.A. 7832 or the Anti-Electricity Pilferage Law.

Prosperidad Barangay Hall which has been operating since 2011 still uses electricity tapped from a meter for the street lighting. The sub-connection was recently discovered by VMC Rural Electric Service Cooperative, Inc. (VRESCO) and the City Engineer's Office but both agencies have not taken an action on the matter yet.

Polls 2013 approaches fast, City admin now fishing to fill one spot

The local administration coalition is looking for an engineer to replace SP Member Greg Santillan's slot for elections 2013.

City Mayor Gerardo Valmayor told NRWP that Santillan's term will end next year and he can no longer seek re-election as a councilor. Since Santillan is the chairman of the committee on engineering, Valmayor said their team is looking for an engineer who can handle the committee. 

"We'll be looking for an engineer to head that committee," the mayor said and added that rumor mills had it wrong when it was speculated that a barangay captain and businessman is slated to take the soon-to-be vacant SP slot.

MOTHER'S DAY 2012

May 13, 2012 is Mother's Day.

While many think that Mother's Day was originated either in England or the United States, the celebration can actually be traced as far back as when the ancient Greeks honored Rhea, the Mother of the Gods, during spring.

In 1600s, the English established Mothering Sunday as an expansion of the Christian celebration for Mary, the Mother of Christ, on the fourth Sunday of Lent. On the other side of the Atlantic, Julia Ward Howe advocated for the proclamation of Mother's Day in Boston. On 1870, this proclamation was made and since then the US marks the second Sunday of May as a day for all mothers.

Thus, most nations around the globe came to celebrate Mother's Day every second Sunday of May. Aside from celebrating motherhood, it is also a special day, though still a working holiday, when children of all ages can approach Mama, Nanay, Inay, or Mommy for a once-a-year message of gratitude and love.

Scarborough & Chinese creeping assertives

"We will not allow the Chinese to conquer our territory!" So goes the banner on a picture of Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal published on April 24 on Facebook.  LtGen. Anthony Alcantara, the commander of the Northern Luzon Command, who has the overall responsibility of 'defending' that part of Philippine territory, also issued a statement that was enfaced on that same picture.  He said, "We call on all our countrymen to support their military."

Crimes against the public

I was speaking to a policeman recently, who was very frustrated that after a long period of investigation, no prosecution in relation to a murder was to take place. The reason appeared to be that no aggrieved third party was prepared to come forward to initiate such action.

I was puzzled by this and by similar stories I have heard many times in the past when serious offenders walk free despite wide public belief in their guilt, even if this has not been considered by a court of law.

Windows and doors

What better way to make use of students' free summer time than to teach them how to properly clean around the house? 

There are two very important parts of the house: the windows and the doors. These two are the entry and exit points of our house and according to a famous adage, when the door of opportunity closes, open the window! The Chinese even believe that these areas are auspicious entry points of either luck or disaster depending on their position and the accessories you put on them. 

Forget Feng Sui, though and let's concentrate on what we can practically do to our windows and doors, right now, right here. 

There are several solutions that will make cleaning glass windows and jalousies easier and more effective. One part of rubbing alcohol and two parts of water placed in a spray bottle, for example, is effective for removing grimes and spreading a fresh, clean scent as air enters through. Another fresh scent cleaner is the mix of one tablespoon of ammonia and one quart of water. 

Baking soda, on the other hand, figures again as the power cleaner that will surely leave a squeaky feel and shine to glass panels. Add two teaspoons of baking soda to one quart of water and wipe the dirt and grime away. 

Now, if you want to get a super-duper shiny window, do not use cotton but old nylon stocking in cleaning it. The stocking's texture loosens the grime and polishes the glass at the same time. Another trick is to use blackboard eraser but make sure the one you'll use has not been used for the board yet otherwise you'll get not a shiny window but a snowy one!

Corners often hide the culprits and over years, when dust accumulates they look anything but pretty. Make sure to use old soft toothbrush or a cotton swab. 

So how about the door? Want to give your door a make-over? No sweat! Simply take all the knobs of all the doors in your house as well as those of your closets. Place the knob on the inside on the outside this time. The inside knob does not get so much wear and tear as it is used less than the one outside. Just switching the knobs will already give your door a new look without really spending for the upgrade. 

Doors should be treated to a repainting job once in a while, right? While kids below 12 cannot be expected to do a great painting job teens can. So, give them these wise tricks. Put petroleum jelly on knobs, hinges and all parts of a door that you don't intend to paint. If these areas end up painted, just rub off the paint with the jelly.
