CNC Battle Round 2
Ledesmas file for TRO
"All
lies! Very far from the truth!"
Socorro Broce-Ledesma, administrative officer of Central Negros
College said that the accusations of her siblings Liza and Margarito Broce and
the officers of the CNC College Supreme Student Government (CSSG) are all lies.
Going to court
Mario Ledesma, CNC school director and Socorro's husband, said
he, his wife, and sister-in-law Assuncion Broce are filing a temporary
restraining order against the two aforementioned siblings who took over the
school management on June 5.
"When they held that rally we were in Cebu. Since we still
believe in the justice system, we went to court to file the TRO," Ledesma,
the subject of the students' "Oust Ledesma" placard, said.
Mrs. Ledesma added that aside from the TRO, they also filed a
robbery case since her siblings and Margarito's son ransacked the cashier's office and took P
170,000 from the safe. Student-leaders and the College Dean Isabelita Perigua
will be among the accused because they connived for the take-over, she added.
Statement
The Ledesma couple published on streamers a statement from
their mother Remedios Broce, owner of the school and wife of the late founder
Oscar. According to the statement, prospective students, parents and faculty
members are "advised that Central Negros College has suspended operation
because of the usurpation of persons unauthorized by Department of Education,
Commission on Higher Education, [and] Securities and Exchange Commission in its
operation."
CNC status quo
However, CNC has not suspended its classes. During the June 14
visit of NRWP, classes of the day high school were going on and Kindergarten to
12 years of Basic Education Program is being implemented to seventh graders.
College students were also attending classes while some were enrolling.
As of press time, the school registrar recorded that CNC has
385 high school students, lower than last school year's 430, and 446 college
students. Last year, there were 608. But according to Margarito Broce and
Perigua enrollment for college is still going on.
Who owns what?
On the ownership issue, the couple said that they never claimed
that they owned the school. "We never claim that we are owners of CNC. We
are employees," Mrs. Ledesma explained. She added that the school owes her
and her husband around P 2 M in back wages since they worked for three years at
CNC without receiving salary. They left the school when a civil case was filed
against them.
Mr. Ledesma, as a note of reminder, added that neither he and his
wife nor Lizaand Margarito own the disputed school because its sole owner,
Remedios, 89, is still alive.
He also denied the accusation that he and his wife squandered
the Fund for Assistance for Private Education (FAPE) grant in 2008. CNC is a
FAPE beneficiary since 1980 and its principal is the only person with authority
to disburse its grant, the school director continued.
Mr. Ledesma cried foul because he believes that the students'
clamor is all personal. "All they want is for me to go out of the school.
It's all personal."
Students on the grill
Amidst CNC's looming management problems and the power struggle
among its heirs, the Ledesmas believe that its students are affected and the
school's operation, too. "Students are transferring to other schools.
Teachers are having problems with the load. The schedule is in jeopardy. And,
the trust of the parents is gone," he enumerated.
Message
On a final note, the school director, who said he was back in
the school January this year by virtue of the dismissal of the intra-corporate
case involving the family members, has a message to CNC students.
"To those who are still enrolled in CNC, just attend your
classes. Study your lessons. Leave the problem to the management and owner.
Concentrate on your studies and do not meddle with the problems."
His wife, Socorro, bade that they will be back at CNC again and
the school's "normal operation shall resume."
