Area I Meet comes
to SCC

Area I Athletic and Cultural Meet comes to San Carlos City after four years and opened on November 22, at the Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School and Tandang Sora Elementary School grounds.
With close to 3,500 delegates from outside the city, excluding game officials, the Area I Meet games are being held in key venues including San Julio Realty, Inc. (SJRI) grounds for football, baseball and softball, People's Park for swimming, and the City Auditorium for indoor court games like badminton.

Run for the win. Runners for the 100-meter dash trial race, Boys, Elementary Division clears the track during the opening salvo of the games at the Area I Athletic and Cultural Meet at the Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School grounds.
Cynthia Demavivas, Department of Education-San Carlos Division Superintendent, said the local government is spending P 680,000 for hosting the events. The budget, Demavivas explained, came from the special education and general funds.

Escalante City Vice-Mayor Santiago Maravillas, who came to represent Mayor Melecio 'Biboy' Yap, said their city prepared their athletes for the games and that they are poised to win although the primary aim is in the name of "sports, camaraderie and brotherhood."
In his meaningful welcome remarks, San Carlos City Mayor Gerardo Valmayor said that as the First District of Negros Occidental, "maghiusa ta." Valmayor emphasized that the games also urge the district "to help each other to move forward and for development."
Despite the presence of other politicians including Board Member Renato Gustilo, who is seeking re-election and was representing Cong. Julio Ledesma IV, and Escalante Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Ned Zamora, Demavivas clarified that the athletic and cultural meet should not get muddled with politics. The newly full pledged superintendent added that the LGU covered the expenses of the event because it has always done so in the previous years and not because of the upcoming elections.
San Carlos City has 700 athletes and coaches whose sports facilities and equipment had already been provided for by DepEd-San Carlos.
The meet is expected to conclude on November 25, when championship games will be played. Cultural competition that includes musical and literary contests will be on November 24 at the City Auditorium. Champions will carry the banner of Area I to the 2012 Provincial Cultural and Athletic Meet in Bacolod City.
