"The right career: GET THERE" By Charmaine Sanchez

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”-Confucius
Thousands and thousands of seniors are to graduate this coming March. If you’re one of these thousands, do you already have plans on where you are heading after graduation?
Basically, there are two types of graduates: 1) Those who have ironed out their college plans and are ready to go, and; 2) Those who DO NOT HAVE A CLUE.
If you’re one of the unfortunate people who belong to Number 2, allow us to help you with four quick steps in choosing the right career path.

First, listen to yourself. In choosing a career, it is very important to listen to your own voice.
Avoid the influence of your ‘barkada’ or your ‘bebe ko’ just to go with the flow. Their choice of career may be for them, but that does not mean it is also for you. Your parents may also have a ‘say’ on what you should be taking up. You’ll have to think about this thoroughly. Do not force yourself on something you are not passionate about. Let them hear your side.
A wrong choice may lead to a total waste of time, money and effort once you end up jumping from one course to another.
Second, know your capabilities. Assess yourself and consider your strengths.
This can help you in fishing a choice of career out of an ocean of options. Be sure of what you are capable of doing and do not be afraid to accept what you can’t do. You have to take full responsibility of your choice and hopefully be able to meet your goals in the end.
Third, be practical! Choose a course that will get you employed right away.
For example, it won’t be practical to take up nursing and end up being added to the row of unemployed nursing graduates. Have your own research on what’s in demand today.
Lastly, know what makes you happy. In the field of work and industry, the feeling of fulfilment only comes once you find happiness in what you do.
Why force yourself to become a doctor if you want to be a beautician? Why work in a company when you want to be a pre-school teacher?
Our career is going to be a big part of us. Preparing for it should not be taken for granted. We hope you’ll get to choose yours and be happy with it.
For now, enjoy the remaining days of your high school life since being in college is a totally different journey.
Congratulations
in advance!
