Centralians protest, win round 1
New mgt takes over

Fight for the future, fight for change. Officers of the Central Negros College Supreme Student Government lead students during a rally inside the campus on second day of school. The students called for the ouster of Mr. Mario and Socorro Ledesma who are presently the administrators of the family-owned college.

A new administration has taken over the management of Central Negros College and the protesting College Supreme Student Government (CSSG) proclaimed victory.
Brewing storm
CSSG officers took the fight to the street on June 5, a day after all public schools in the country started implementing the Kindergarten plus 12 years of Basic Education Program. Roughly 20 college CNC students armed themselves with placards as they called for a change of school management.
Plebeeboy Nalzaro, CSSG Vice-president, said that they held the protest because they wanted to voice sentiments against Mr. Mario Ledesma and his wife Socorro. The two had ran the school for about 19 years. "Eleven million ang kita sa school kada tuig pero walay improvements," Nalzaro stated as fellow student-protesters continued shouting for change in front of the school stage.

K to 12 starts smooth

Kindergarten plus 12 years of Basic Education (K to 12) was implemented smoothly starting June 4, school heads reported.
"As far as Grade 1 is concerned, implementation is okay but the burden is on the teachers," Cynthia Demavivas, Asst. Schools Division Superintendent and OIC of the Department of Education gave her assessment. Teachers in Grade 1 are now faced with the challenge of implementing K to 12 together with the Mother Tongue-Based Multi-Lingual Education (MTB-MLE).
MTB-MLE does not come with textbooks so teachers are forced to make big books, charts, cards and other visual learning aids. In Tandang Sora Elementary School, Grade 1 teacher Giannefel Natividad B. Bellego readily conducted her class in her native Cebuano. Bellego gave her pupils instructions using the mother tongue and the class got going on day one through the Cebuano children's song "Kumusta ka?" Pupils responded both with glee and surprise that they had to sing not English but Cebuano songs.
For the whole division, only Don Juan Elementary School in Barangay Punao does not have enough classrooms for its pupils. Several rooms in the said school had been declared condemnable.
Demavivas also reported that DepEd Order No. 41, series of 2012 is now being promulgated nationwide. The order mandates that for Grades 1 to 3, the maximum number of pupils per class should only be 40. In high school, there should only be 40 to 60 students in a class.

Corona case:
Model for good governance

Kumander Dante "cried like a baby".  This was the revelation of Mario Miclat in his book "The Secrets of the 18 Mansions".  Kumander Dante, Bernabe Buscayno in real life, was the erstwhile leader of the New People's Army (NPA) before he was given amnesty by the Cory Aquino Administration sometime in 1986.  This revolutionary peasant was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) together with author Miclat under the leadership of Jose Maria (Joma) Sison who now lives in the Netherlands.

Football for breakfast

"Football is life."
I had never met people whose professed devotion and dedication to a sport spill out of the playing field until June 4. It was when I met the Scottish football coach Leigh Manson, Mexican coaches Jorge Kuriyama and Diego Angel Sandoval Vera.
