Fire razes old shop post-Charter Day

Dawn of fire working an shop and store. A firefighter from the San Carlos City Fire Department struggles to put off the electrical fire on S. Carmona Street with only one fire truck. The old houses with four vehicles were all charred on the dawn of July 2. The night before, the long delayed 52nd Charter Day  fireworks display graced the city skyscape.

Victims lament that fire
truck’s short of water

It isn't so fun when varicolored sparks of fire gracing the night sky would turn to tongues of flame that charred a store and an embroidery shop fronting two houses. It even becomes disastrous when the fire truck runs out of water.
Barely five hours after sparks of fireworks shoot up the San Carlos sky to mark the 52nd Charter Day Anniversary, a fire turned two wooden houses on S. Carmona Street into ashes.
Ma. Linda Dejecacion, pre-school teacher who owns Corpus Christi Pre-School, recalled that it all started when she and her husband were asleep and their son Ed Joseph just came home from the street party at Center Mall. It was around three to four in the morning; it was still pitch dark.

Faster and faster. Bikers pass through a subdivision on their way up hill during the Invitaional Bikefest on June 30 and July 1. San Carlos Association of Mountain Bikers (SCAMB)organizes the yearly bike race which is now attracting competitors from all over the Visayas.

Dampened fireworks

How sad it was that the monsoon rains dampened the fireworks display on July 1.
My son and my nephews had anticipated watching sparks fly to the sky in merry colors exploding in gigantic shapes. But the rains came and we just had to send them to bed dreaming of fireworks for 10:30 is way past kid's bedtime.
Fireworks, a few minutes of display is worth hundreds of thousands. It doesn't fail to amaze me that despite our stark poverty and the budget cut that gets larger and larger every year, we and many other cities and municipalities (like Calatrava) in the country can still afford to throw money into the sky and let it dissipate like smoke.
The Wind

The wind that takes my
Words away as I say them
Will say them. Let it

World

Without God
Even death would
Lose its proper
Terror.

UK lessons

The news in the UK has been full of a historic handshake between the Queen and the man who used to command the IRA in Northern Ireland (NI). He is now deputy prime minister in the elected NI assembly, which has devolved responsibility for domestic affairs within the UK.
His “army” in 1979 murdered the Queen’s Cousin, Earl Mountbatten (who was the last British Governor in India before independence), and they are still dedicated to reuniting NI with the Republic of Ireland and ending the Queen’s rule over that part of Ireland.

Sugang pula
