GK Carloseños 1MB launched
By Ma. Jesusa F. Constantino
"Alone, we can do so little, together, we can do so much."
This was Roberto Magalona's message to all the youth who attended the GK Carloseños 1Milyong Bayani (MB) launching at the City Auditorium last January 28. Magalona is the GawadKalinga (GK) Provincial Coordinator.
The launching purpose of 1MB campaign "is to encourage all sectors of society, through public and private collaboration, and in the spirit of bayanihan. GK is able to restore the dignity of the poor." said Mr. Misael Hibionada, San Carlos GK Area Coordinator. He added that it sought to raise an army of youth heroes for the poor who will stand up against poverty.
The event started with a parade of City Officials, GK Provincial team and volunteers, the GK community, the Parish Youth Organization and the nine secondary schools of the city.
Last September 23-24 2011, GK1MB held its first GK Leaders' Camp at Colegio de Sto. Tomas-Recoletos with GK volunteer-leaders from different schools in the city- public and private. "The leaders' camp was organized to unite the different schools in preparation for the launching, where each school leaders has also conducted a camp within their own schools in order to spread the [GK]'s message" said Lourdes Villarante, one of the volunteers and the over all in-charge of the program.
The promotion of the GK1MB was brought to light in the middle of the program with the Commitment Ceremony. It was a formal message of commitment and dedication of different schools and organizations to help GK in realizing all its programs.
LGU’s commitment
San Carlos City Mayor Gerardo P. Valmayor, Jr. was the last one to give the city's commitment to GK. He said that the City was very grateful for institutions like GK Foundation that facilitated the funding of the 58 houses at Barangay Guadalupe that the city government developed as a home lot site. He promised to give a valuable support to GK. He also announced that the Angelicum Foundation of Spain managed by Fundacion Familia Barcelona will also support and continue to fund the housing project at Barangay Guadalupe.
