News "Helmet leniency"

            Helmet leniency

San Carlos City Police Office (SCCPO) is practicing 'leniency' on the imposition of the use of protective helmets within the city proper.
SCCPO Chief P/Supt. Harold Tuzon said that this is in anticipation of the use of dark, tinted and full head protective helmets in crimes like assassination and robbery/hold-up. Although Tuzon still emphasized that helmets are very important as a safety measure, criminals are using helmets for them not be identified as recent crimes in Metro Manila and Dumaguete City prove.

SCCPO now encourages the use of helmets that show the face like the one shown above. Image source: images.search.yahoo.com

The police chief confirmed that they are presently investigating a robber/ hold-up case involving three suspects two of whom used helmets.
Motorcycle riders coming from nearby towns who are using full head helmets are advised to open the helmet's part where the face will show. While check points at the highway are very strict with the use of helmets, they are lenient within the city.
Tuzon also recommends the use of cap helmets that do not cover the face. While it still is protective, it should not be used as mask for criminals.
