MOTHER'S DAY 2012
May 13, 2012 is Mother's Day.
While many
think that Mother's Day was originated either in England or the United States,
the celebration can actually be traced as far back as when the ancient Greeks
honored Rhea, the Mother of the Gods, during spring.
In 1600s,
the English established Mothering Sunday as an expansion of the Christian
celebration for Mary, the Mother of Christ, on the fourth Sunday of Lent. On
the other side of the Atlantic, Julia Ward Howe advocated for the proclamation
of Mother's Day in Boston. On 1870, this proclamation was made and since then
the US marks the second Sunday of May as a day for all mothers.

Thus, most
nations around the globe came to celebrate Mother's Day every second Sunday of
May. Aside from celebrating motherhood, it is also a special day, though still
a working holiday, when children of all ages can approach Mama, Nanay, Inay, or
Mommy for a once-a-year message of gratitude and love.
